Tokyo Jissha refers to ten shrines in Tokyo metropolitan area. They belong to the shrines that were selected by Emperor Meiji after the Meiji restoration to bring about property and continued growth of the capital city.
In 1975, it was reselected to ten shrines and Tokyo Jissha Meguri was planed for Emperor Showa's 50th anniversary of accession.
This tour will bring you to five (north half) of Tokyo Jissha shrines.

  • Hakusan Shrine

    Hakusan shrine was established in 948 and this shrine received support from the ruling shoguns in the Edo period. In June, you can see the beautiful collaboration of shrine and hydrangeas.
  • Oji Shrine

    This high ranked Shinto shrine is believed to bring good luck, drive away evil spirits. In heydays, it control the Mt.Asukayama too.
  • Nezu Shrine

    The origin of Nezu Shrine dates back to a mythical world of Yamato Takeru. This shrine has survived the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 and the Tokyo air raids in 1945. Most of the buildings were built on 1706 and it designated as an important national cultural property in Japan.
  • Kanda Myoujin Shrine

    It is located in middle of business district of Tokyo and three deities are enshrined here; Daikoku, Ebisu, and Taira no Masakado. Daikoku and Ebisu are gods of business. Taira no Masakado is god of victory. This is why Kanda Myoujin is popular to businessmen in Tokyo.
  • Kameido Tenjin Shrine

    It enshrines Sugawara Michizane (Tenjin). It is well known that he loved plum tree during his life, but also he is famous as a god of scholarship too.
    This shrine nicknamed the "flower shrine". Each season, you can enjoy various kind of flowers such as Plum, Wisteria and Chrysanthemum.
