Tokyo Jissha refers to ten shrines in Tokyo metropolitan area. They belong to the shrines that were selected by Emperor Meiji after the Meiji restoration to bring about property and continued growth of the capital city.
In 1975, it was reselected to ten shrines and Tokyo Jissha Meguri was planed for Emperor Showa's 50th anniversary of accession.
This tour will bring you to five (south half) of Tokyo Jissha shrines.

Tomioka Hachiman-gu Shrine
Tomioka Hachiman-gu Shrine is located in Fukagawa area, so it is also known as the Fukagawa Hachiman and it is biggest Hachiman-gu in Edo.
When the festival nicknamed "water-splashing festival" held, people splash purifying water on mikoshi (portable shrines) is very energetic and worth seeing. -
Shiba-daijingu Shrine
It is founded in 1005, dedicated to the sun goddess, Amaterasu and the agricultural goddess, Toyouke as well as Ise Grand Shrine in Mie Prefecture. It is said as 'Kanto's O-Ise Sama'. -
Shinagawa Shrine
It was founded in 1187, wished to have good luck on marine traffic safety and achieving the dreams.
Also, it is the first Post station along Tokaido (the largest of the five routes in the Edo period), and Shinagawa Shrine was the guardian of northern half of the Shinagawa post station. -
Akasaka Hikawa Shrine
Enshrined from AC 951, and the 8th seii tai shogun Yoshimune Tokugawa commanded and constructed the current shrine building at the shrine’s current site in 1730.
This building still retains the original features from Edo period, so it is designated as a Tokyo-Metropolitan-Area designated intangible cultural property. -
Hie Shrine
Hie Shrine was built here 800years ago, and god of mountain is enshrined here. This shrine brings about good fortune for matchmaking, warding off evil, career advancement, and job promotion. Big difference from other shrines is that the messenger of the god at Hie Jinja is the monkey instead of Komainu (lion-dog).
