Meiji Shrine (Meiji Jingu)
Meiji Shrine (Meiji Jingu) is a shrine dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his consort, Empress Shoken. Although, it is known as welcoming many visitors for the year's first prayers (hatsumode), more than any other shrine or temple in the country. You will be refreshed surrounded by forest in the precincts of a shrine. "Kiyomasa no ido" (Kiyomasa's well), famous as the spiritual spot, is must-see too.

This was my first time going to worship, but I was surprised by how spacious and quiet the grounds were. You'd never thing you were in the middle of a large city.
I'd often seen on TV, the way it looked when people visited Meiji Jingu shrine for New Years, or during the sumo ring-entering ceremony, but I loved actually sightseeing there, thinking to myself, "So this is where it all happened..." 50s・Woman - It's a place I've always liked, but being there I was truly able to feel Japan's natural beauty and the heart of Shinto. 40s・Man
